Empowering the future of justice

Every year on 15 July, the global community marks the World Youth Skills day. The day’s purpose is to highlight the importance of passing on to young people the various skills that they might need to meet the challenges of the future. The European Judicial Training Network is playing its part in this important mission. Through its initial training activities – the AIAKOS Programme and the THEMIS Competition – EJTN is dedicated to fostering a new generation of skilled and knowledgeable justice professionals.

The European Judicial Training Network’s (EJTN) Working Group on Digitalisation launched its first activity earlier this week, with a focus on Artificial Intelligence and the Rule of Law. 

EJTN launches a new groundbreaking publication on the rule of law and good administration of justice in the digital era

The European Judicial Training Network (EJTN) recently launched its latest publication, ‘The Rule of Law and the Good Administration of Justice in the Digital Era’ (Brussels, Bruylant, 2024). This comprehensive and bilingual volume (FR/EN) is the result of collaborative efforts from key judges, experts and institutions on the rule of law in the European Union.   

New calls for experts to support judicial training in Serbia and Montenegro

The EJTN “Pilot Action on Judicial Training” is pleased to announce a new round of calls for experts in judicial training who will support the development of training on EU law in the Republic of Serbia and the Republic of Montenegro.

Revolutionising judicial training: EJTN seminar showcases the potential of Virtual Reality

On 5-7 June, the European Judicial Training Network (EJTN) held a seminar titled ‘Virtual Reality in Judicial Training’ in Pirna, Germany, which effectively demonstrated VR’s potential to revolutionise judicial training by modernising training methods and ensuring legal professionals are well-equipped to meet the challenges of contemporary judicial practice.

EJTN 2024 Extraordinary General Assembly: delegates meet to discuss and strengthen the Network addressing new challenges in training areas

On 12 and 13 June, EJTN organised its 2024 Extraordinary General Assembly under the Belgian Presidency of the Council of the European Union and with support from the Belgian Judicial Training Institute. The event took place in Brussels, Belgium.

The fundamental values and aims of the European Judicial Training Network (EJTN) are deeply rooted in those of the European Union and its history. Peace, freedom, justice and security are all values that both EJTN and the EU aim for in their activities, not just on Europe Day but every day of the year. 

EJTN launches new initiatives at 2024 Activity Coordinators Training

The European Judicial Training Network (EJTN) commenced its 2024 Activity Coordinators training on 7 May, marking a significant step forward in judicial education across Europe.

The 2024 THEMIS Competition begins soon

A total of 36 teams from 12 EU Member States, three Western Balkan countries (Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Serbia), and Moldova will compete and try to win the 2024 THEMIS Competition. The number of participating teams has increased compared to 2023, when 31 teams took part in the event. 

EJTN at the forefront of supporting the digitalisation of justice

On 25–26 April, the European Judicial Training Network (EJTN) representatives attended a landmark conference organised by the European Commission on supporting the digitalisation of justice, aiming to discuss elements of the future European Judicial Training Strategy.

EU training programme enhances the awareness of non-competition national enforcers in competition matters

EJTN is carrying out a training programme funded by the European Commission under the Single Market Programme with the aim of enhancing the awareness of non-competition national enforcers (judiciary members and law enforcement staff) in competition matters. 

European Judicial Training Network Holds Landmark Meeting on Digitalisation in Paris

The European Judicial Training Network (EJTN) successfully conducted its first face-to-face Working Group on Digitalisation meeting on April 15th and 16th, 2024, hosted by the École Nationale de la Magistrature (ENM) in Paris, France. This milestone event marked a crucial step in activity planning to advance the judiciary’s digital transformation across Europe.

The EJTN Exchange Programme is pleased to announce that its 2nd-semester study visits call for application is officially open. Judges, prosecutors, judicial staff and trainers from all the EU Member States are eligible to apply. 

Take the initiative: develop a project for a regional exchange or a judiciary learning grant programme

Over the last years, EJTN has developed programmes where the participants can identify their interests and learning needs and receive financial support from EJTN to implement their projects. Participating judges, prosecutors, court staff and trainers can learn from their European colleagues with the highest possible level of freedom to design their exchange activity from A to Z.

This year, we proudly highlight and recognize the joint study undertaken by the Italian Scuola Superiore della Magistratura, the Bologna branch of the Institute of Legal Informatics and Judicial Systems of the National Research Council.

We are a membership-based association. Our members are judicial training institutions from all EU members states and the Academy of European Law.

Our vision is to foster mutual trust between judiciary professionals from all EU member states and to contribute creating a common legal and judicial European culture. We achieve this vision by providing networking opportunities for our members, observers, and partners, and by offering tailored training to all 400.000 judges, prosecutors, court staff, and judicial trainers in the EU.

EJTN follows a bottom-up approach: Our members learn with each other and from each other.

We design and implement all EJTN training activities together through our four working groups: Exchange Programme, Programmes, Judicial Training Methods, and Linguistics.

This work mode enables our members to exchange best practices and also to improve their domestic training programmes back home, all across Europe.
