EJTN is carrying out a training programme funded by the European Commission under the Single Market Programme with the aim of enhancing the awareness of non-competition national enforcers (judiciary members and law enforcement staff) in competition matters.
EJTN will be organising a series of eight ad hoc training sessions on EU competition enforcement, in cooperation with the judicial training schools from the European Union, as well as three study visits to the Directorate-General for Competition of the European Commission in Brussels.
This training programme intends:
- to improve the non-competition national enforcers’ ability to identify during their routine investigation activities in economic and financial matters, potential anticompetitive behaviour, and
- to promote cooperation and information sharing among them and the European Commission and National Competition Authorities.
Below is an overview of the training activities foreseen in the framework of the project.
Event | Format | Target audience | Overview |
Training Sessions | 8 hours over 2 half-days | Prosecutors managing or conducting investigations in economic and financial matters, as core daily tasks | By combining presentations on EU Competition rules and practical cases of investigation cooperation between the European Commission and national non-competition enforcers, the training will raise the participants’ awareness in EU Competition matters and increase their ability in identifying potential anticompetitive behaviour by understanding what information and evidence would be valuable for enforcing EU competition law. The training will be designed and delivered by officials of DG Comp. To allow a free exchange of opinions, participants will be invited to get acquainted with “Chatham House Rules” and make use of it. None of the training sessions will be recorded. |

The study visit will comprise a high-level ad hoc training session on EU competition enforcement by DG COMP’s officials and managers of other investigation units. In addition, participants will have the opportunity to meet with DG COMP officials and managers of the ‘Data Analysis and Technology’ unit to strengthen relations and connectedness between the two Institutions in view of future cooperation activities. |

This aligns with the EU’s goal to strengthen ex-officio enforcement carried out by the European Commission and National Competition Authorities. The European Court of Justice has validated this form of cooperation, solidifying the collaborative enforcement framework within the EU’s single market.
