EJTN’s 2022 General Assembly was held in Paris.
Ingrid Derveaux elected to serve for the next term (1 January 2023 to 31 December 2025) as EJTN Secretary General.
EJTN’s Steering Committee, Working Group Conveners and Working Group members elected to serve for the next term (1 January 2023 to 31 December 2025).
A new Associate Member responsible for the training of the court staff joined the EJTN Network.
Introduction
EJTN’s 2022 General Assembly was held on 7 – 8 June in Paris, France. At this important event EJTN members elected a new Secretary General, a new Steering Committee and new members of the Working Groups Programmes, Exchange Programme, Linguistics and Judicial Training Methods.
The event was opened with welcome addresses by the French Minister of Justice, Éric Dupond-Moretti, by the Host and President of the General Assembly, Nathalie Roret, Director of the National School for the Judiciary (France, ENM), Elie Renard, Deputy Director and Chair of the event, as well as by Markus Brückner, EJTN Secretary General.
The EJTN warmly welcomed Olesia Otradnova, Director of the Prosecutor’s Training Center of Ukraine, and Mykola Onishchuk, Rector of the National School of Judges of Ukraine, who gave statements on the state of the play of the EJTN Observers and the situation in Ukraine. EJTN expressed its profound support.
Following the opening speeches, the EJTN Secretary General reported on EJTN’s 2021 Activities and the impact of the COVID-19 crisis, presented the state of play of the 2022 Work Programme and budget, and presented an ambitious Work Programme and budget for the year 2023.
Echoing the ambitions of EJTN’s Strategic Plan 2021 – 2027, the General Assembly welcomed with enthusiasm as a new associate member the Directorate General of personnel and training at the Italian Ministry of Justice, responsible for the training of court staff in Italy.
EJTN’s four working groups, Exchange Programme, Judicial Training Methods, Linguistics, and Programmes, gave interactive presentation about their work during the running mandate. Secretary General Markus Brückner reported on various items like the state of play of the Pilot Action on Judicial Training in the Western Balkans, the EJTN partnerships, his three years’ mandate, and EJTN’s ambitious and forward-looking new digital tools and enhanced digital environment.
In a time-honoured tradition, an annual report was provided by EJTN’s Steering Committee Chair, Remco Van Tooren, Vice-President the Board of Directors, Training and Study Centre for the Judiciary (Netherlands).
A high-level and acclaimed closing speech was addressed by Didier Reynders, European Commissioner, DG Justice & Consumers, which marked the end of the 2022 General Assembly.
Elections: Secretary General, Steering Committee and Working Groups
On the second day of the General Assembly, elections were held for the positions of the EJTN Secretary General, members of the Steering Committee, and conveners and members of EJTN’s four Working Groups.
Ingrid Derveaux, Head of the International Department at the National School for the Judiciary (France, ENM), was elected for the office of the EJTN Secretary General. Her mandate will begin in January 2023 and continue through to the end of December 2025.
The following institutions were elected to become members of the Steering Committee, the mandate of this Steering Committee will run through to the end of December 2025.

The following Conveners were elected for the new mandates of EJTN’s three Working Groups, which also run from January 2020 to December 2022:
- The Academy of European Law as Convener of the Working Group Programmes
- The Judicial Training Institute of Belgium as Convener of the Working Group Exchange Programme
- The Judicial Academy of Czech Republic as Convener of the Working Group Linguistics
- The Centre for Judicial Studies of Portugal as Convener of the Working Group Judicial Training Methods.
