EJTN hosts first-ever focus group dedicated to long-term training periods

Meeting

In October, the European Judicial Training Network brought together past participants of EJTN long-term training periods in a dedicated focus group to explore how these immersive experiences have shaped their professional lives.

Executed for the first time and guided by the expert moderator José Pablo Carrera Fernández from the Judicial School of Spain, the session was designed as an investigative conversation that encouraged participants to thoroughly reflect on their experiences.

Participants in this inaugural first focus group completed a long-term training period at the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU), the European Public Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO) or the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) in 2024. They were invited to share specific moments from their professional lives, where lessons from their training directly impacted and helped them in their day-to-day work. The discussion also examined factors that facilitated, or sometimes challenged, the adoption and application of new skills or best practices. The moderator further explored how participants have shared knowledge, how their institutions have benefitted from their experience, and how the professional networks developed during the training continue to support collaboration.

Overall, the focus group highlighted the remarkable dedication of the participants. It captured the richness of their experiences and the lasting impact of the long-term training periods and the broader Exchange Programme. Through thoughtful discussion and open, reflective dialogue, the focus group highlighted the value of long-term training periods in building expertise, confidence, and professional growth.

This initiative will be renewed next year.
