Secretary General Ingrid Derveaux travelled to Luxembourg for her inaugural visit to the Court of Justice of the EU on 13 January 2023 where she met President Koen Lenaerts to discuss the future of the long-lasting partnership between CJEU and EJTN.
Every year, judges, prosecutors, and court staff from most EU member states have the chance to benefit from one of the many training activities organised in co-operation with the Court of Justice. Notably long-term training periods, study visits, and the Judges@Europe forum, as well as an annual seminar on the preliminary ruling procedure provide a vast array of training opportunities at the Court of Justice.
Our trustful and efficient partnership is a valuable asset that requires constant exchange of information and skills. Based on a memorandum of understanding signed by both parties which is constantly being held up to date, EJTN and CJEU have a reliable ground for the organisation of training targeted at judges, prosecutors, and court staff.
EJTN will continue to co-operate with the CJEU on a large scale. Projects for the involvement of more member states in regular training, as well as newly established projects, such as the production of learning videos on the preliminary ruling procedure will form a basis of trust and ideas for the future.
The direct communication between EJTN and CJEU on the highest level shall ensure the continued close co-operation in pursuit of the goal of high-quality judicial training, creating a common judicial culture throughout the EU, and bringing the EU judicial institutions closer to the national judiciaries.
EJTN offers a wide range of initial and continuous training opportunities connected to the Court of Justice of the EU in the Exchange Programme portfolio. Especially long-term training periods offer an in-depth insight to the work of the Court as well as a full immersion of participants in European law and its applicability. Interested judges and prosecutors are warmly invited to visit the Exchange Programme website section https://ejtn.eu/activity/long-term-training-periods/.
